Teams, Controllers & Whisperers

Spider includes a complete user management with embedded user administration features. See User administration operating pages for more information.

So doing, users may only access data they are entitled to.

Data are captured by Spider agents: Whisperers, Controllers and Gociphers.

To access network usage, you need to select a Controller.
To access captured data, you need to select a Whisperer.

These agents may belong:

  • to you,
  • to another user and being shared to you in person,
  • or to a Team, in which case, you need to select the team first.

Teams

A Team is a group of users sharing Spider customization and Whisperers access.

To access team data, you need to join it:

👉 Follow the instructions of the Quick start to join and select a Team.

Whisperers

A Whisperer is a capture agent of Spider.
It is deployed remotely to capture local network packets and send them to Spider for parsing.

👉 Follow the instructions of the Quick start to select a Whisperer.

You may also select many at once.

Controllers

A Controller is a Kubernetes service that allows remote attachment of a Whisperer to any running Pod in the cluster.

This new Whisperer instance(s) may be attached:

  • to an already capturing Whisperer and thus extending its capture area
  • to a dedicated Whisperer to focus only on this Pod(s) communication

👉 Follow these instructions to attach a Whisperer.

A Controller also aggregates network usage captured by Gociphers to make them available in Spider.
To access Network Usage, select a Controller.

👉 Follow the instructions of the Quick start to select a Controller.
